They flesh out these villains, allowing fully formed characters to emerge where once they were merely one-and-done boss battle appearances. A new personal favourite gadget called the Web Grabber – which pulls enemies in from a distance and makes them smack into one another – also playfully builds into this philosophy. I had a lot of fun using this before landing a sharp burst of Miles’ Venom lightning onto grouped-up goons, and now Peter can get in on that fun as well. They’re just as enjoyable, as it feels like the suit is trying to burst out of the rumbling DualSense controller in my hands. This aggressive style of play is rewarded, as the only way to heal is by building up your focus bar – filled by landing hits and timing perfect dodges – and is another way to make sure that exciting rhythm of combat is never lost.

The Ricochet Web will help players web up multiple enemies, shooting enemies one after another. Gadgets are an important aspect of being Spider-Man, almost as much as saving people and keeping a secret identity in a pretty cool superhero outfit. When it comes to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Peter and Miles will have access to 5 gadgets, with each of them providing the two Spider-Men with new ways of dealing with the criminals of New York City. A new addition to Spidey’s tech, Concussion Burst knocks back all nearby enemies with a blast of concussive force.
Investigating Kraven, Peter discovers he is hunting super-powered individuals in search of an “equal”. Having already killed Scorpion, Vulture, Shocker, and Electro, Kraven attempts to capture Black Cat. However, Miles helps her escape to Paris by using the mystical Wand of Watoomb. The responsive vibrations of the DualSense controller bring Peter Parker’s symbiote abilities and Miles Morales’ bio-electric skills to your fingertips.
She vents her frustrations with herself and Peter in a way that shows she isn’t this perfect paragon she’s presented as the rest of the time. Lean into that and show that she’s just as flawed as the main two heroes, and more people might actually start to like her. This game falls into the most common pitfall of big open world games.
